Granica Pamięci (Border of Memory)

Boundary of Memory - a self-therapeutic fable written with a palimpsestic landscape
series of collages on handmade paper, 50 x 70 cm, 2022.

The project was created as part of my Bachelor's degree in Creative Communication Studio with Dr. Monika Aleksandrowicz in 2021/22.

My BA degree consisted of a series of three-dimensional collages and a short film depicting my own distorted memories.

Over the past few years, I have been quietly reflecting on unpleasant childhood memories. The intrusive brooding over them made them increasingly delusional: the memories had many holes that seemed to have been sewn up with little personal lies.
Border of Memory - a fable written with the landscape of the Nadodrze region
author's exhibition of the project

It seems to me that I am constantly standing on the border of memory, which is a certain imagination. An imaginary that is the boundary between transparency and invisibility, idealization and denunciation of memories. The edge blurring between images of memories and new mental images and new impressions. I fill the white page of oblivion with them, turning it into a landscape of images of memories (imagines) and images of places (loci), from which I create a story, a fable.
A fairy tale that is infinite, constantly ongoing. Written with the landscape of the Rhineland.

My art project is accompanied by a certain ostracism, loneliness: you can see dark, partially dilapidated tenements, dirty and neglected courtyards - they appear empty, and behind them protrude dark, partially dilapidated tenements. They look empty, soulless, like haunted houses. Despite the distortion, one recognizes the riverside townhouses and courtyards in them.

The fact that the artwork was presented at the Łokietka 5 Infopunkt emphasizes the essence of this place, which acts as a meeting place for the residents of Nadodrze and is a support point for local entrepreneurs and artists.

Łokietka 5 is a place that was created within the scope of the Nadodrze revitalization program. It is not only an exhibition space, but also a place for debates about urban space and its development. Łokietka 5 is a space that serves the residents of Nadodrze, who at the same time co-create it.

This underscores a certain hope that I tried to embody in the project with the scraps of memorabilia and tenderness contained in the photographs, and most importantly, the film. The ostracism that accompanies the works is offset by the exhibition space, which acts as a gathering place for residents.

That's why the exhibition was titled Border of Memory. A fable written with the landscape of the Nadodrze River. I wanted to emphasize the importance of Nadodrze, to encourage residents to visit the exhibition and to feel a sense of belonging to my project.
